What are we doing to support the Ministry of Education’s “Teaching and Learning Of 21st Century Competencies in Schools” (refer to the extract from the website of NIE below)?
We are offering a program by Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, California State University, Fresno.
Date: Thursday 19th April 2012.
Venue: I-Connect Surbana One Level 1, Jalan Bukit Merah, Singapore 150168.
Mr. Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education touched upon the move towards a Student-Centric, Values-Driven Education and your need to teach and measure 21st Century Competencies. There are three broad areas highlighted in his speech:
- Student-centric Education: Enabling All Students to Succeed
- School-based, Teacher-led Excellence: Empowering Schools and Educators to Do the Best for Each Student
- Working with Parents and the Community: Enhancing Partnerships
Our global evangelist for Creativity, Dr Ed Sobey, will be in Singapore in April this year. As part of his visit to support adoption of such skills like Creativity, Innovation, Problem-solving, Critical-thinking and Entrepreneurship skills, we are offering the opportunity for a limited number of educators to be accredited as Certified Teachers in 21st Century Skills.
Accreditation will involve live training by Dr Sobey followed by practicum. Upon successful completion, graduates will be awarded certificates by Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, California State University, Fresno.
Dr Sobey is a well-known figure in the education industry and in the creativity world. He co-founded at Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, California State University, Fresno, the Kids Invent!® Programme. This programme strongly fosters and promotes 21st Century skills and is adopted by many leading institutions across the world.
Benefits of our Kids Invent!® programme:
1. Our activities will help participants understand and utilize scientific principles through experimentation.
2. It will stimulate creative instincts through invention and develop a problem-solving mindset to improve on designs.
3. A child who has attended a Kids Invent!® programme will also develop tactile and co-ordination skills by building mock-ups.
4. They will be able to demonstrate the value of teamwork.
5. Our Programme will improve the language and presentation skills of the participants; including encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship.
Kids Invent!® programme promotes life long learning and creativity and cultivate skills that will help them succeed in the 21st Century. Kids Invent!® Learning Programmes are appropriate for schools, as integrated curriculum, co-curriculum, after school care, holiday enrichment and off campus learning and wherever kids are eager to experience hands on innovative learning.
We take great pleasure in inviting your School to embrace and adopt this Programme with us. We believe that this programme will be the answer to enabling our teachers as well as nurturing and preparing our young for the 21st Century. Let your School be first in becoming a 21st Century School – be part of this exciting “Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” movement!
